Norfolk Jonquils 2
Oil on Linen
Doing a short series of paintings with the same subject matter is an interesting challenge.
While I am creating these still life set ups I fiddle with the positioning of the subject, alter the lighting and experiment with different coloured backgrounds to create the composition. It is surprising how one can change the emphasis on various elements of the set up and the difference that can be achieved in the overall appearance of the potential painting.
Lighting and positioning of the subject matter can of course alter the mood of the piece dramatically. Here I have changed just a few things from yesterday’s set up and retained a gentle atmosphere around the subject. More recently I have become increasingly interested in colour so come back again tomorrow to see how I have used colour with this subject matter to change the emphasis of the painting entirely.
