Recently I have found that the more I paint the more ideas I get for further work. I have a couple of sketch books around the house and in the studio where I record ideas when they come to mind in the form of thumbnail sketches for future use. I even have a note pad on my bedside table! – the key is to get the idea down before its forgotten. There is nothing worse than running out of inspiration.
Of course not all ideas would work on these smaller panels so I have plenty of ideas for larger work for the Norwich & Norfolk Open Studios in May and for the Holt Festival in July . . . and I’m looking for somewhere to exhibit in the Autumn so I’m open the suggestions, invitations, begging letters and emails etc.
One of the first rules I learnt in composition was never place the subject matter in the centre of the picture plane. But to quote the Dalai Lama “Know the rules well so that you can break them effectively ” Hopefully (?) I’ve done that by having enough apparently going on to move the eye around the picture plane. What do you think?
