Welcome to my Shiny New Blog . . .
. . . and it is here that I will be showcasing my new work, giving advice and tips on painting as well as book, exhibition and equipment reviews. I will also be sharing the struggles, frustrations, failures, successes and achievements (hopefully!) of a humble Norfolk Painter. To receive my blog posts whenever I post please click on the three dots in the top right hand corner leave your email address in the form.
. . . and a Shiny New Website.
To keep pace with how the internet is evolving and how artists interact with it I have had my website rebuilt following some valuable advice from Paul Foxton . I am so pleased that I employed a company to build the site. If I had had do it myself I would still be at it this time next year. Thank you Aakansha and the team at Webcreation UK I think you have done a great job! My site address is https://www.nicholaselliott.co.uk/
My previous site used Paypal to take payments for online sales requiring buyers to have a paypal account. At times this became a barrier to a purchase/sale. My new site uses Worldpay which simply accepts all major debit and credit cards.
Open Studios Time
I have been very busy of late. Open Studios time is fast approaching in Norfolk and I am busy preparing work for an exhibition of Floral Paintings in Holt and some smaller pieces for my Open Studio here at home in Fakenham. The two events will run consecutively. The Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios event begins Saturday 25th May for 16 days when 450 artists from the region exhibit their work in over 250 venues. Its one the largest and most successful open studios schemes in the country providing artists an opportunity to exhibit and meet the public. In turn visitors get the opportunity to see where and how artists work.
I am always pleased to meet children amongst the visitors to my Open Studios. It gives them an opportunity to explore art locally and gather knowledge and information about painting – a subject that is sadly not covered much in schools these days. So as Art subjects continue to be shaved off the curriculum I am very keen to pass on whatever knowledge I can because I believe that the Arts enrich peoples lives – both in the creation and appreciation. I am delighted that most of the kids I meet during this event are very enthusiastic and keen to learn – hopefully some of them will find a way into painting with a little support from their parents.
And of course the Open Studios and associated events are an opportunity to meet new and established clients, friends and acquaintances. If you are in the area please do pop in for a cuppa and a chat – You can check my Studio Open dates by clicking on here.
Currently the smaller pieces that I sell online are sold framed and ready to hang because thanks to a good relationship with my framer I can include a frame and not over inflate the price of the painting.
Recently I have had several conversations about the pros and cons of buying a ready framed painting online. Whether you are a buyer or a painter I would love to know your thoughts on this.
Whats Coming Up on The Blog?
Watch out for my next post is ‘Overcoming Artists Block!’ something that most of us are unfortunate to encounter from time to time.
